In England, the most important part of children's parties is the food! After the games, they sit around a table and eat sandwiches, crisps, jelly and ice-cream,individual cakes (fairy cakes or buns) and finally the birthday cake. This may be a simple chocolate cake but is often made in a special shape .... a pirate ship, a football pitch, a castle ...... There will be a candle for every year of the child's age and he/she makes a wish (faire un voeu) before he blows out (souffle) the last candle.

The crackers you can see on the table are usually only for Christmas. Sometimes there are party hats but not always.
